A: Biltong is dried beef steak. After the fat and sinew are removed it is marinated and slow-dried producing a healthy and tasty snack high in protein, low in fat and carbs. Pioneered in South Africa as a way of preserving meat in hot weather, biltong now offers a healthy snack and a great source of quality protein.
-
Q: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BILTONG AND JERKY?
A: Biltong is not jerky! They are both beef but here the similarity ends. Jerky uses processed meat and typically has 10x the sugar as well as a lot less protein per serving than biltong. M-eat! uses premium silverside from certified Scotch farms, packs 50g of protein per 100g serving and has zero added sugar.
-
Q: WHAT MAKES M-EAT! BETTER THAN OTHER BILTONG?
A: FIRST: we source our beef carefully, using only certified Scotch silverside. We guarantee full traceability.
A: SECOND: m-eat! is fresher than typical biltong because we do not over-dry it which makes it softer and tastier. it only lasts 6 months vs. 18 months for typical biltong.
A: THIRD: we always tenderise our meat while in the marinading process - which ensures a softer, more tender texture to biltong than you will find elsewhere, making m-eat! far better.
-
Q: WHAT TYPE OF MEAT DO YOU USE IN M-EAT!?
A: We use prime grass-fed Scotch silverside sourced from farms certified for the highest standards of animal welfare.
-
Q: WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
A: Whole silverside beef and the marinade. Typically, 55-60% of the weight of the beef disappears during drying. The marinade is made using salt, pepper, malt vinegar, Worcester sauce and roasted coriander seeds. We never use MSG in our spices! We never use artificial colouring. We must use the minimum amount possible of E202 (Potassium Sorbate) to guarantee the 6 month shelf life.
-
Q: WHY IS GO M-EAT! DIFFERENT FROM M-EAT!?
A: Go m-eat! uses cider vinegar rather than malt and no Worcester sauce. This gives go m-eat! a lighter, less complex flavour than m-eat!.
-
Q: WHY DO YOU USE ARTIFICIAL PRESERVATIVES?
A: All cured meat products use preservatives to ensure a certain shelf life. We use the minimum amount of E202 (Potassium Sorbate) to guarantee a 6 month shelf life. Most biltong uses artificial preservatives to guarantee an 18 month shelf life. We do not use any nitrate-based preservatives.
-
Q: HOW MUCH SUGAR IS IN M-EAT! AND GO M-EAT!?
A: There is no sugar other than what naturally occurs in the meat that we use. We never add sugar - ever. Promise.
-
Q: DO I NEED TO KEEP M-EAT! IN THE FRIDGE?
A: Best to keep your m-eat! in the fridge after you open the packet. You can store unopened m-eat! and Go m-eat! at room temperature.
-
Q: HOW MUCH SHOULD I EAT?
A: The body will absorb about 20g of protein at one time, that is one small 35g bag of m-eat!. If - like us - you want to m-eat! more, we will not stop you! No one is suggesting you have a biltong only diet but supplementing your healthy calorie intake with a solid dose of biltong is definitely helpful.
-
Q: HOW LONG DOES M-EAT! KEEP FOR?
A: m-eat! has a 6 month shelf-life. We recommend you eat it within 2-3 days of opening the packet. Traditional biltong lasts for up to 18 months.
-
Q: WHERE IS MY CREDIT CARD INFO STORED??
A: We use a professional third party provider called Recharge Payments to store your info securely. That is what they do. And it allows us to stick to what we know - making the biltong.
-
Q: WHO DELIVERS MY M-EAT!?
A: All our biltong is made by us right here in Wimbledon. We then package and send it all over the UK using Royal Mail and other carriers with untracked and tracked services. Please note that return postage is not refundable as this is paid by the customer.
-
Q: HOW CAN I SUBSCRIBE?
A: Select weekly or monthly when you pay. Or choose 'one-off payment' if you prefer not to subscribe.
-
Q: CAN I CHANGE OR CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION?
A: Yes, at any time up to 7 days before your next scheduled m-eat! box delivery. This is to ensure we have not already packed and shipped your next box. It also means that we do not charge you by mistake for a flavour and quantity you may no longer want.
-
Q: DO YOU DELIVER OUTSIDE THE UK?
A: We normally ship all over the EU but have had to temporarily disable this due to incredibly long delays and the uncertainty over BREXIT.
