The government has made a swift move to tackle the 'time bomb' of obesity in the UK. Advertising junk food before the 9pm watershed on television and online will soon be banned. Chocolate, sweets and crisps can no longer be displayed at checkouts. Restaurants and pubs are required to list calories on menus including for alcoholic drinks. Whilst the move has mostly been a response to the fight against COVID-19 tackling obesity is sure to benefit the nation on a much wider scope.
Cancer Research UK believes that consistent advertising of junk food normalises bad habits and worse diets. The Obesity Health Alliance has called this move by the government, a “landmark move.” Research shows that 43% of food and drinks sold by checkouts were sugary. None of this paints an acceptable picture for a healthy future.
Whilst each of the steps announced should not be seen as an attack on snacking we hope that it does encourage the nation to be more considered about what we eat. It is of course entirely possible to introduce an altogether beneficial way of snacking.
We at M-EAT! have always endorsed the advantage of replacing high calorie, high sugar and high fat snacks for our award-winning biltong. We add nothing to the lean, grass-fed British beef. There is less than 1% fat or sugar in every 100grams of M-EAT! With six flavours to choose from, each containing the same nutritional value, it is the perfect replacement for crisps and other high sugar and high salt eats.
What's more is that so as not to encourage bad habits we have made our big sharing packs resealable. So you do not need to finish an entire pack once it's opened (unless you choose to). When you've had enough simply reseal the pack and store it in your bag, car or cupboard.
M-EAT! biltong has and always will remain a healthy, protein-packed superfood in every way. We take as much care about where our beef comes from as we do about what we put in it. Our beef is traceable, air-dried and seasoned using natural spices. Absolutely nothing else goes in our healthy, meaty snacks. Grab a bag and try for yourself. Snacking just got better.
