Here are a few ideas on how to use your stockpile creatively with a high protein food source that has a 400-year old history. So here are three easy-cook recipes to put to the test:
M-EAT! biltong quiche muffins (30 minute recipe)
Ingredients: 250g flour, teaspoon of baking powder, 125ml cream, 250ml cream cheese, three eggs, 250g M-EAT! biltong, 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, pepper and salt to taste. For the base you will need half a box of flavoured crackers of your choice and two tablespoons of melted butter.
Method: Mix flour, baking soda, cream and cream cheese. Add eggs to make a smooth mix. Add M-EAT! biltong, cayenne pepper and seasoning to taste. Set aside. Put crackers in plastic bag and gently crush using a rolling pin. Mix biscuits with melted butter. Grease and line the bases of muffin tin with biscuit mix. Pour flour mix over the base. Bake on medium heat until cooked.
M-EAT! biltong roll-ups (20 minute recipe)
Ingredients: 8 slices white bread with crusts cut off, 200g strips of cheddar cheese, one cup M-EAT! biltong shavings, one egg and dried oregano for garnishing.
Method: Add strip of cheese and M-EAT! biltong as required on to a slice of bread. Roll the slice and brush with egg. Sprinkle dried oregano. Place in the oven at medium heat for 10 minutes. Enjoy with sour cream and chives.
M-EAT! biltong pasta bake (30 minute recipe)
Ingredients: 200g M-EAT! biltong, 400g pasta of your choice, a few cloves of garlic, a sprig of rosemary, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 50g of cherry tomatoes, salt, pepper and smoked paprika to taste. Italian hard cheese for topping (optional).
Method: Mix oil, garlic, rosemary and seasoning with tomatoes. Place on a roasting tray and roast for 20 minutes or as required. Cook the pasta al-dente. Remove the vegetables from the oven and mix in with the pasta and M-EAT! biltong. For extra flavour you can grate the cheese over the dish and enjoy!
